What is embezzlement? Embezzlement is defined as the wrongful taking of money or valuable property that occurred while the accused was entrusted with that money or property. This improper taking does not necessarily need to be for the benefit of the accused, and as such the benefit can be for another person. Generally speaking, embezzlement charges are often brought against someone of trust (e.g., store manager, bookkeeper, accountant, etc…).

Felony Embezzlement
  • Occurs when the value of the property taken was over than $200.00
  • Penalties – Jail time up to 20 years, a fine of up to $2500.00, and possible restitution

Why should I contact an attorney? Embezzlement is a serious financial crime that can lead to lengthy prison sentences and very hefty fines.
